Nur Ahmed was born in the City of Dhaka , the present Capital of Bangladesh. After passing the Intermediate Science Exam from Dhaka Govt. College , Dhaka, he was selected for admission into two year's Pre-sea training course at Marine Academy , Juldia, Chittagong in 1963. He graduated from Marine Academy , Juldia, Chittagong in 1965 and was placed in FIRST CLASS and stood THIRD in order of merit. He qualified in the SECOND MATE (Foreign Going) Certificate of Competency from Karachi Nautical College in 1968. He qualified in the FIRST MATE (Foreign Going) Certificate of Competency from Karachi Nautical College in 1971. He obtained his Master (Foreign Going) Certificate of Competency from South Shields Marine & Technical College , Tyne & Wear , England in 1975 and became a member of Nautical Institute, London . | SERVICE EXPERIENCE He had started his sea carrier as Deck Cadet in 1965 and served through the ranks of First Officer in the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation till 1972. He then joined Shipping Companies in Singapore and served as Chief Officer till 1974 when, after completing his sea time for Master Mariner's Exam, proceeded to South Shields Marine & Technical College , Tyne & Wear , England for joining Phase-2 Course. After qualifying in the Master Mariner (Foreign Going) Certificate of Competency in 1975 he joined as a Senior Navigating Officer with Texaco Overseas Tankship Limited, 1, Knightsbridge Green, London SW1X 7QJ , U.K. He then returned home and joined Bangladesh Shipping Corporation and served as Captain in Command till 1977. Then he joined as Harbour Master, Chittagong Port Authority and served until 1983. After leaving service of Chittagong Port Authority he started his self employed business of independent Marine Surveyor, Beaching Master, Salvage advisor and Marine consultant.
FOREIGN COURSES Attended TANKER SAFETY COURSE at Southampton Nautical College , Warsash , England , sponsored by Texaco Overseas Tankship Ltd., London in 1975. Participated in MARITIME ADMINISTRATORS COURSE ON PREVENTION OF POLLUTION FROM SHIPS arranged by the Merchant Marine Academy , Malmo , Sweden and the National Swedish Administration of Shipping and Navigation, sponsored by IMCO-London in 1978. Participated in the IMCO/UNEP International Workshop on the PREVENTION, ABATEMENT AND COMBATING OF POLLUTION FROM SHIPS IN EAST ASIAN WATERS held in Manila , Philippines , Jointly arranged by the IMCO and the Philippines Coast Guard with the support of the United Nations Environment Program in 1980.
